2009-2010 Toyota RAV4

The Toyota RAV4 was first introduced to North America in 1996 as one of the first popular compact SUVs. Closer in size to a small car, it was aimed at those who want the cargo room and and four-wheel drive of an SUV, but without the bulk and bad gas mileage. Unfortunately, however, recent-model RAV4s are one of the many Toyota models subject to recall because of sudden uncontrolled acceleration.

A number of Toyota’s most popular models have been associated with hundreds of reports of sudden acceleration. Numerous drivers, while otherwise using their vehicles normally, have suddenly found themselves racing out of control as their vehicle’s accelerator inexplicably opened up to full throttle. This has led to dozens of injuries, several of them fatal.

Toyota RAV4s built in 2009 and 2010 are subject to recall over these dangerous manufacturing defects, but the problems may affect models as early as 2004. If you or someone you know have been injured because of Toyota uncontrolled acceleration, you may be entitled to compensation. The RAV4

After its introduction, the RAV4 became one of the most popular small SUVs in the world. It filled a niche between large, truck-based SUVs and more fuel-efficient, city-ready sedans. The RAV4 offers four-wheel drive and plenty of cargo space in a small frame. Like many Toyota vehicles, its reputation was built on safety and reliability. But that reputation has changed.

Sudden Acceleration

Toyota is one of the world’s leading automakers and a cornerstone of the Japanese economy. For that reason, the world was shocked to learn that millions of Toyota drivers may be at risk for serious injury or death because of sudden uncontrolled acceleration. For a brand whose reputation was built on safety and reliability, many customers see these dangerous manufacturing defects are a betrayal of the reputation Toyota worked so hard to build.

How does a vehicle suddenly accelerate out of control? There have been several explanations put forward. Toyota’s most recent wave of recalls began with the claim that gas pedals on many of their vehicles can become stuck under floor mats. But that’s not the end of the story: since then, numerous other causes have been put forward.
